Bologna

Arcade in the city. Bologna is a city of arcades, they're everywhere!

A food market on a street that was literally 5 feet wide.

A lot of the old buildings in Bologna are colored red. Walking around the city, this becomes more and more apparent.

Amazing column base.

Some huge statue that we found inside of a courtyard.

The best part of my trip to Bologna was probably my introduction to the work of the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. This is the facade of a store that he designed. The intertwined cirlces that make this window is Scarpa's signature. This can be seen in many of his other works.

Scarpa designed every aspect of his projects, from the windows to the hinges on the doors. The beauty of Scarpa's work is found in the details.

A column with Scarpa's signature hollowed out.
